About the Book:
Someone rightly said, “What goes around, comes around,” and in the debut book ‘Second Chance’ written by Dr Sandeep Jatwa, he narrates the effects of karma and how our deeds on earth can determine our rewards and punishment afterlife, more like “as you sow, so shall you reap.”
The novel is about a man named Shekhar Kapoor, a rich, spoilt, obnoxious, selfish businessman, who has never done a decent thing in his life and is later made to pay for all his misdeeds. He is rude to the core, and he cares less for anyone who is below him. As I read the book, I couldn’t imagine how a person could be so heartless to not even spare his own father: a paralyzed old man on his deathbed, blaming him for the reason behind his mother's death.
And, because of his rude nature, he begins receiving warnings from a voice, which he thought was either a dream or his own illusion. Shekhar continues to treat everyone like trash in spite of all the warnings he was receiving until the last call of caution came and took his life. He met with an accident and is taken into a fantasy-like world known as the ‘City of Justice,’ he goes through the similar phase of what sounds like a ‘judgment day.’ His wrong actions were read out and the verdict for his punishments are pronounced based on his misdemeanours. Shekhar was unable to believe that he was already dead, nor could he imagine that a rich man like him will have to go through the stage of death and punishment. What will happen to him once his penalty is decided? Will he go through the same pang just like the way others felt because of him? Will he feel guilty enough to ask for a second chance? Will he be given a second chance? I am not going to elucidate the detail as I don’t want to be a book spoiler. You should find the answer in this mind gripping book ‘Second Chance' written by Sandeep Jatwa. In the meantime, you can read my take on the book...
My Take on the Book:
As a firm believer in karma, I felt that the book spoke volume of how there is no rich or poor when it comes to the consequence of judgment once we are dead, You will be punished and rewarded based on the life you lead. Shekhar thought he could escape from the harsh reality of mortal with his richness and power, but it is impossible when life and death are in the hands of God. Like everyone else, his rude and heartless behaviour made him pay for his deeds at the end. The book reveals the spiritual way of treating people with love and showing respect to everyone since you are likely to be judged once you die. One should not demote others just because he/she is inferior to you.
This is an exceptional book with a mix of spiritual message and a hint of a mystical theme. It is well written and the author has narrated the story with its gripping plotline and intriguing interpretation. However, I felt he could have written better than this, also the cover of the book could have been more appealing.
Overall, it is a light read for anyone who wishes to know more about karma and its effects, and anyone who believes in doing good while they can.
Grab a copy today and see if one should get a second chance, and if so how will one change and make it better? Because not everyone gets a second chance or maybe not everyone deserves one. Do they?
